Start a website from nothing
What to do when you have an idea and a blank page.
Difficulty: beginner
1. Write the one sentence version first
Before you open any tool, finish this sentence. If you cannot, the site is not ready to build yet, and no agent can fix that for you.
This website helps [who] to [do what], so that [what happens for me].
2. Decide the single thing a visitor should do
Every page can only have one most important action. Sites that ask for four things get none of them.
The main thing is that they request a quote. Everything else on the page exists to make that feel safe.
3. Ask for a plan, not a website
Get the structure and the words agreed before anything is built. Correcting a list is a minute, correcting a built page is an afternoon.
Before building, list the sections you plan and the headline for each, and wait for me to confirm.
4. Correct the plan out loud
Say what is wrong and why, not just what to change. The reason travels to the rest of the site, the instruction does not.
Drop the testimonials section, I have no reviews yet. Put the price range higher up, that is the first thing people ask.
5. Then build, one section at a time
Build the top of the page first and look at it. A wrong assumption caught in the header would have been repeated in six other places.
Build the header and the hero only, then stop so I can look at it.
The mistake almost everyone makes is asking for the whole website in the first message, then spending the rest of the day undoing it.
Plan, correct, build a piece, look. It feels slower and it is reliably faster, because every correction you make early is a correction you do not repeat.
