Keep a slim header visible after the visitor has scrolled roughly 80 pixels, showing the logo, 3 to 5 links, and the main action. Reduce its height compared with the opening header so it does not cover the content. Do not make it appear and disappear on every small change of scroll direction.
Use this navigation pattern when it changes the result the agent should produce. It provides one concrete direction without deciding unrelated parts of the website.
